Euro exploits take their toll on tired Celtic

Celtic manager Neil Lennon said his side's European exploits had taken their toll after he watched the Hoops twice throw away a lead to draw 2-2 with Hibernian at Parkhead.

The Hoops booked their place in the Champions League group stages for the first time in four years when they defeated Swedish champions Helsingborgs 2-0 in midweek to seal a 4-0 aggregate win in the play-offs.

It was Celtic's fourth qualifying match of the campaign so far after previously dispatching Finnish side HJK Helsinki over two legs in the third qualifying round.

The games have taken a lot out of Lennon's squad with the Celtic manager missing six first-team regulars for the meeting with Hibs due to injury.

But the Hoops boss hopes the upcoming international break will allow his squad to recover.

"The European games have certainly taken their toll on the squad. We had so many players out and we lost Victor Wanyama to an injury as well today," Lennon said.

"We had Beram Kayal, Scott Brown, Joe Ledley, Georgios Samaras and Charlie Mulgrew missing too. These are exceptionally good players but I'm not using that as an excuse as you want to bring these kids through.

"Last week at Inverness was fantastic and against Hibs for the majority of the game they played great so I am not particularly unhappy with them.

"We have been through the qualifiers now and hopefully when everything settles down after this two-week break we will go to St Johnstone with a good squad to pick from."

Mikael Lustig had volleyed Celtic into a 10th-minute lead against Hibs but Tim Clancy took advantage of a mix up between Lustig and goalkeeper Fraser Forster to fire Hibs level in the 53rd minute.

A howler from Hibs keeper Ben Williams then allowed Lustig to atone for his earlier error as he fired in off defender James McPake to restore Celtic's lead in the 69th minute.

But Hibs were on level terms again four minutes later when Paul Cairney finished his mazy run with a low shot past Forster.

Despite being disappointed with aspects of his side's performance at both ends of the pitch Lennon refused to blame any of his players.

"These are players who have done superbly for the past two years here so they are allowed a bad day at the office," the Celtic boss said.

"I'm not worried as it was very unlike us and maybe just a lack of concentration.

"It was a mix-up for the first goal and we missed two tackles for the next goal. The players know this can't happen at any level never mind senior level.

"We played some great attacking football particularly in the first half and we should have been out of sight at half time.

"We hit the bar and hit the post and Tony Watt has been one-on-one with the goalkeeper so on chances alone we could have won two games today.

"I think the result flatters Hibs and I think they can count themselves lucky to get a point."

Celtic paraded new signings Efe Ambrose and on-loan Getafe striker Miku before the match and the Hoops boss said he was hopeful of adding free agent Lassad Nouioui to the squad despite reports the French-born Tunisian had already signed for Spanish side Levante.

"We have agreed terms and the paperwork is done so we just need him in to do his medical," Lennon said.

"He will do a couple of days fitness work as he hasn't had a club since the end of the season and we just need to gauge his physical condition and take it from there.

"He is six foot two inches and leads the line very well. He can play outside or inside the box and he heads it very well.

"We have liked him for a while and he has a decent record. I know most of his goals have come in the second layer of the Spanish division but it is still a very decent standard.

"He has played for Deportivo La Coruna for the last couple of seasons and scored 30 or 40 goals so he will bring another dimension to the team that we have missed."

The February issue of Mayo Clinic Health Letter offers suggestions to fight fatigue:

Manage stress -- Learn to say no. Set priorities. Pace yourself. Take time each day to simply relax.

Be active -- Try to get at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity each day.

Eat well -- A low-fat, high-fiber breakfast prepares your body for the day's demands. Limit high-fat and high-sugar foods, which tend to make you feel sluggish later.

Avoid alcohol -- Alcohol depresses your central nervous system and acts as a sedative, making you tired for hours after consuming even minimal amounts.

Practice good sleep habits -- Avoid eating, reading or watching TV in bed. Keep your bedroom cool, dark and quiet. Set your alarm for the same time each day -- a routine will help establish a regular schedule. Naps are OK, but keep them short and early in the day.

Dramatic or prolonged fatigue may be the sign of an underlying medical problem. If lifestyle changes don't seem to help, see your doctor. Some common medical causes of fatigue are anemia, cancer, depression or other mood disorders, diabetes, infections, restless legs syndrome, sleep apnea, thyroid problems and even heart attack. A recent study found that the most common early warning sign that women experience before a heart attack is unusual fatigue.

?So, you?re a mortician? Didya ever hear that?s a dead end job????

I swear I must hear this about 10+ times a week. When I?m working more often, its way more. We really need to get some more ?witty? funeral jokes, because this one is killing me. HA! Get it?? Ugh, moving on.

I have seen a few different blogs/articles about how to approach families when a death occurs (check out this one, written by funeral blogger Caleb Wilde, http://www.calebwilde.com/2012/08/how-to-speak-the-language-of-grief/) this blog has some great examples of things you should not be saying to a family, but what about us funeral directors? What are some things we wish people didn?t say to us? Hitting below the belt, making silly jokes, and poking fun at us for doing a job I doubt many people could handle is fustrating. Especially since we can?t always use a comeback we want to, depending on the person. So I composed a little list of things you should NOT say to a funeral director upon meeting one. If you do ask this, expect either a calm, collected answer, maybe an uncomfortable smile, and *hopefully* not hands wrapped aroud your neck choking you.

1. Stated above?the ?dead end job? joke JUST NEEDS TO DIE. Literally. I know sometimes families say it to pick up the mood when everyone comes into a funeral home, in the sake of just getting someone else to crack a smile, but I think we are all in agreement?we need a new joke.

2. Necrophelia. Anything related. PLEASE. Just refrain from doing it. Its gross, insulting, and makes things realllllly akward. I always get this when I am in a super relaxed setting,? (a bar), and people are a little relaxed (drunk). Nothing is a bigger buzz kill when you are in a group of people. Its weird enough they all know what you do for work, but that just crosses the line.

3. ?Ew! You touch dead people?? And you just shook my hand?? Got any Purell?? Yes?this has happened to me. Ouch. Its pretty mean. I?m sure my funeral home?s prep room is cleaner than the doctor office/hospital you go to. This one is just common courtesy.

4. ?Whats the nasiest thing you have ever seen?? This is one of the first questions most people ask me. I know we are all morbidly curious, but its a bit crude, especially if you are in a public setting, and hearing a work story may be a bit offensive to some. This is where learning the ?language? comes in handy..meaning how to word things so they are a bit PC, gentle and not vulgar. Remember..not everyone could handle hearing it, even if they are the one to ask.

5. ?I bet people are dying to meet you!? Yes asshole, I?m sure they are, since that is where people want to be?dead and in a funeral home. UGH. Self-control is a?VERY good thing to have when you are asked this. Its another one of those sayings that you will hear a billion times in your life, so its best to smile, and just keep your mouth shut.

6. ?So, like, you cut the body up, take out everything and drain the blood?? This is what most people perceive the embalming process to be like. When I was in Mortuary school, one of my professors told the class that one of our responsibilities is to educate the public about our job, to win back the shady reputation we have gotten over the years, and provide accurate information. Its the same as #4?just watch your language, and you can tell people what you are doing in a way thats easier to take. This question is something that a lot of families may ask when they meet with you to make arrangements, and its understandable?they do want a little explanation of what it is if they are planning a public viewing and are giving permission for embalming?whether its a family or some douche at a bar, I give the same PC explanation. Keep it simple, not too graphic.

7. ?EW! Why would you do something like that??? Why does anyone do a job they feel strongly about doing? Ask that to a EMT who is saving your life, or the plumber who is unclogging the unsightly amount of hair from all the women in your house, the garbage man or septic worker. ?Dirty jobs? are not for everyone, but we rely on them. I think saying something like this comes from people who are scared of death and most likely has not had a very personal encounter with death. If they did, they woudn?t be asking such an offensive question.

LAPD Cop Slams Down Nurse Twice Following Traffic Stop - Law Blog

We live in a society of law and order.? Modern civilizations all follow the ideology that in order to exist free from cavemen-like anarchy where the guy or gal with the biggest stick wins, we have to abide by certain rules.? Furthermore, we also have to entrust a certain incorruptible people to enforce these rules.? For the most part, the system works; that is until it doesn?t.

It?s seems like the Los Angeles Police Department is perpetually going to be one of those police organizations that just can?t stay off the front pages.? Ever since Rodney King and the ensuing riots, the LAPD has gotten a pretty bad rap when it comes to police brutality.

The most recent case involves a 34-year-old registered nurse by the name of Michelle Jordan.? Jordan was pulled over by L.A. cops after a pair of yet-to-be-named officers allegedly spotted her talking on her cell phone while driving.? Jordan pulled into a Del Taco parking lot.? The cops then approached Jordan about the incident.? However, instead of behaving reverentially to the officers like most motorists in that situation, Jordan mouthed off to the cops, according to her attorney.? Can you guess what happened next?

If you said that the cops pulled Jordan out of her car and body-slammed her to the floor, you?re correct!? The fast food joint?s camera?s capture the officer allegedly yanking the 5-foot-4-inch woman from her vehicle and tossing her to the floor before handcuffing her.? The video then shows the cops allegedly slamming her down to the ground a second time for no apparent reason prior to shoving her into the backseat of their squad car.? The officers then appear to celebrate with a cool-as-ice fist bump.

Jordan was later charged with resisting arrest and then released.? Though thanks to the surveillance video, it looks like it?s going to be a lot harder for her charge to stick.? Especially following the release of pictures showing Jordan?s scraped and bruised face and body after her arrest.

There are more than a few legal issues floating around this case.? First and foremost is whether Jordan was lawfully pulled over to begin with.? Cops are allow to stop and arrest citizens for any crimes that they either witness or have reasonable suspicion to have occurred.? In Jordan?s case, if she was actually talking on her mobile phone, that would?ve been reckless driving and certainly be a valid reason for the officers to pull her over.

The trickier part is determining whether she was lawfully charged with resisting arrest.? While most people may be quick to dismiss this in Jordan?s favor, the fact of the matter is that under California law resisting arrest is actually very broadly defined.? The statute basically states any actions willfully done by the defendant that would have delayed his or her arrest is enough of a basis to charge one with resisting arrest.? This arguably means the slightest physical movements, like pushing back against a cop or not letting a cop push you to the ground could theoretically be enough for a conviction to stick.

In addition, in California (and most jurisdictions) defendants can still be charged with the offense even if the initial arrest was unlawful.? Meaning even if the cops didn?t have a reasonable suspicion to pull Jordan over, she still isn?t allowed to prevent them from arresting her.

While it?s unclear from the video how much of a fight Jordan put up (if any) to her arrest, if prosecutors can establish that she put up some resistance, there?s a possibility that her charge might not be dismissed.

Though in reality, it?s probably unlikely that prosecutor in their right mind would try to pursue a conviction against her.? You?d be hard-pressed to find any jury to convict her after looking at that surveillance videos and seeing her injuries.? In fact, don?t be surprised if Jordan is the one who ends up suing the LAPD, which by the way her attorney already claims to be considering.
